An annual plant with strong stems, growing up to 30' to 40' (80-100 cm) tall. The large, spherical inflorescences-baskets are bright and varied in color, with a diameter of 2' to 3' (4-6 cm). Ideal for group plantings in flower beds and for cutting.
To start growing dahlias, fill a pot or seed tray with moist seed compost and firm the surface gently. Lightly push your dahlia seeds into the compost, being sure to label them clearly. Cover pots with a clear polythene bag, held in place with a rubber band. If using seed trays, cover with a propagator lid for better results.
Seedlings will germinate in about two weeks. Once the true leaves have grown, transplant them into individual 10 cm (4'') pots filled with multipurpose compost. Firm the soil around the roots and water well.
Transfer the dahlias to outdoor positions in mid-May, hardening them off by standing them outdoors during the day and bringing them in at night. Plant them in their final positions once all frost risks have passed.
Enjoy a wonderful mix of flower shapes and colors from these vibrant plants!
