Rare Orange Dahlia Pompon Flower Seeds

The dahlia is an annual flowering plant that completes its lifecycle within 30 to 80 days. It features robust stems reaching heights of 30 to 40 inches (80 to 100 cm). The inflorescences form large spherical baskets, typically 2 to 3 inches (4 to 6 cm) in diameter, showcasing a vibrant array of colors. Dahlia plants are cultivated either by direct sowing seeds into open ground or by starting seedlings indoors for earlier blooms. Flowering typically commences in July and continues until the onset of frost. They are commonly used in mass plantings for ornamental flower beds and are favored for cutting gardens.

To propagate dahlias from seed, begin by filling a pot or seed tray with moist seed compost, gently firming the surface. Carefully press the dahlia seeds into the compost, ensuring they are evenly spaced. It's essential to label each pot or tray to track varieties. Cover the containers with a clear polythene bag inflated to create a greenhouse-like environment, secured with a rubber band. Alternatively, if using seed trays, cover them with a propagator lid to maintain humidity.

Dahlia seeds typically germinate within a couple of weeks. Once the seedlings have developed their first set of "true" leaves, they are ready for transplantation into individual pots. Handle the seedlings delicately by their leaves, teasing the roots gently out of the compost.

Transplant each dahlia seedling into a 10 cm (4 inch) pot filled with multipurpose compost, firming the soil gently around the roots and watering thoroughly. By mid-May, gradually acclimatize the young plants to outdoor conditions by placing them outdoors during the day and bringing them indoors at night to avoid cold damage.

Once all danger of frost has passed, usually by late spring, dahlia plants can be planted into their final positions in the garden. This method ensures a diverse and colorful display of flowers, varying in shape and hue, once the plants mature and bloom.
