Rare Yellow Dahlia Pompon Flower Seeds

Dahlias are annual plants that typically bloom within 30-80 days. Their stems are strong, reaching a height of 30'-40' (80-100 cm). The inflorescences, or flower heads, are large and spherical, with a diameter of 2'-3' (4-6 cm), and come in a variety of bright colors. Dahlias can be grown by sowing seeds directly in the open ground, or for earlier flowering, through the use of seedlings. Flowering begins in July and continues until the first frost.

Dahlias are often used in group plantings within flower bed designs, and they make excellent cut flowers. To start growing dahlias from seed, fill a pot or seed tray with moist seed compost and lightly firm the surface. Gently push the dahlia seeds into the compost, and be sure to label the container. Cover the pots with an inflated clear polythene bag, held in place with a rubber band. If sowing in seed trays, cover with a propagator lid.

The seedlings will typically germinate within a couple of weeks. Once the 'true' leaves have grown, the seedlings are ready to be transplanted into individual pots. When handling the seedlings, hold them by their leaves and gently tease them out of the soil.

Gently transplant the seedlings into 10 cm (4'') pots filled with multipurpose compost, firm the soil, and water well. In mid-May, begin the process of hardening off the plants by standing them outdoors during the day and bringing them in at night. Once all risk of frost has passed, the plants can be planted in their final positions.

The resulting plants will provide a wonderful mixture of different flower shapes and colors.
